Alexis Marie Adams
Writer, mother, wanderer & wonderer
I live and write at the edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in Montana and in a remote village in southern Greece. My articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, Scientific American, Orion Magazine, The Boston Globe, and other publications and have been published by Oxford University Press and The Food & Environment Reporting Network. My work has explored various culinary and agricultural histories and traditions of Greece, habitat restoration and the climate crisis in the American Southwest, and vital but imperiled ecosystems, like an old-growth forest in Montana and the Vjosa River delta in Albania.
I love to read, hike the ancient pathways of Greece, the hardwood forests of Northern Michigan, and the mountains of Montana, swim in the sea, and participate in Greece’s wild and hypnotic panagyria. I forage and garden, and am learning (slowly) to play the tzouras and, when in the States, the banjo. I am Mom to two fun, funny, and fascinating young adults, to an English setter who landed in our lives just when we needed her, and to two very sweet Greek cats. And, I'm partner to David, book reader, player of the accordion, fellow wanderer and lover of adventure.
