Alexis Marie Adams
Writer, mother, wanderer & wonderer
I live and write at the edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in Montana and in a remote village in southern Greece. My articles and essays have appeared in National Geographic, The Guardian, Scientific American, Orion Magazine, The Boston Globe, and many other publications. My work, as wide-ranging as my interests, has explored the culinary histories and traditions of the eastern Mediterranean, habitat restoration and the climate crisis in the American Southwest, and imperiled ecosystems, like an old-growth forest in Montana and the extraordinary and endangered Vjosa River Delta, which I wrote about for The New York Times.
Wherever in the world I am, I wonder, can’t efforts meant to restore or protect habitat and biodiversity also help create vital, sustainable economies? In the Mediterranean, I'm curious about the connections between traditional foodways, cultural vitality, and biodiversity. I’m keenly interested in exploring nature-based solutions to the climate crisis.
I love to read, hike the ancient pathways of Greece, the hardwood forests of Northern Michigan, and the mountains of Montana, swim in the sea, backcountry ski, and participate in Greece’s wild and hypnotic panagyria. I forage, garden, and knit. I am Mom to two fun, funny, and fascinating young adults, to an English setter who landed in our lives just when we needed her, and to two very sweet Greek cats. And, I'm partner to David, book reader, player of the accordion, fellow wanderer and lover of adventure.
