Alexis Marie Adams

Writer, mother, wanderer & wonderer

I'm a Montanan with roots in northern Michigan, and I’ve lived in Greece off and on since childhood. Today, I live and write in a remote Greek village and in rural Montana. Over the years, my work has explored the culinary and agricultural histories and traditions of Greece and Italy, cultural travel, regenerative and other sustainable agriculture practices, and wild and imperiled places in the Balkans and the American West. My articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, Scientific American, Orion Magazine, The Boston Globe, and other publications. I've also been published by Oxford University Press and The Food & Environment Reporting Network.

My story for Scientific American about efforts to restore pollinator habitat along the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, and stimulate the economy in the process, was featured in a New York Times roundup of the year's best solutions-oriented environmental journalism. I'm also a Society of American Travel Writers award winner.

I love to read and write, garden, forage, cook, and eat, walk the ancient pathways of Greece, the hardwood forests of Northern Michigan, and the mountains of Montana, swim in the Myrtoan Sea, and adventure and explore with my partner and young adult kids.
